No Change in Home Loan EMI

The RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided not to change the repo rate, which means that there is little likelihood of changes in the monthly installments (EMIs) for home loans, vehicle loans, and other debts.

RBI’s Monetary Policy: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to keep the policy interest rate (repo rate) unchanged at 6.5% for the tenth consecutive time. This announcement was made by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das after a three-day meeting of the MPC on October 9, 2024. He stated that despite global fluctuations, the monetary policy has successfully managed to control inflation and boost economic growth. Additionally, the RBI’s MPC has decided to adopt a neutral stance.

Food Inflation Expected to Decrease Due to Better Monsoon

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das mentioned that due to a better monsoon and sufficient buffer stock, there is a likelihood of food inflation decreasing this year. He also noted that the flexible monetary policy framework has completed eight years, marking a significant structural reform. Key economic indicators are signaling strong activity in the economy, and the fundamentals remain robust. The share of investment in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has reached its highest level since 2012-13.

Economic Growth Rate Estimated at 7.2%

The RBI Governor informed that the MPC decided to keep the interest rate stable by a vote of 5:1. He stated that the economic growth rate is expected to remain at 7.2% for this financial year. Improvements in domestic demand, lower raw material costs, and government policies are contributing to a surge in the manufacturing sector. Moreover, the estimate for retail inflation for the current financial year has been maintained at 4.5%.

No Expectation of a Decrease in Home Loan EMI

The RBI’s MPC’s decision to keep the repo rate unchanged indicates that there is little likelihood of changes in the monthly installments (EMIs) for home loans, vehicle loans, and other debts. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das provided information about the decisions taken during the three-day meeting of the reconstituted MPC, stating that the committee has decided to keep the policy rate unchanged. Out of the six members of the committee, five voted in favor of maintaining the repo rate.
